Stop Trading Hours for Dollars

Are you selling high end products? Does your business model target the rich and affluent people in USA? If your answer is yes, make sure that you have a business website and for better mileage make the website or applications mobile phone or cell phone compatible. You may also think about mobile phone marketing to for better conversion rate.

A recent survey conducted by IPSOS Mendelsohn (formerly known as Monroe Mendelsohn Research) found that rich people (income group of $100,000 and above) spend around 23.4 hours per week over the internet. To add to this, 20 percent of USA households fall within that income category and they access the web "26 times per week using a computer and 17.6 times via a cell phone or mobile device".

And this is not all, if you start moving up the ladder, 57 percent people within the income group of $250,000+ use hand held devices like a mobile phone to access internet. And a hooping 10 percent of all these people purchase goods or services online via a mobile phone. Isn't it reason enough for you to start thinking about developing mobile friendly websites and applications and mobile marketing!

AdWeek (online advertising magazine) published this report titled "Rich Spend More Time Online (The affluent spend 23-plus hours per week on the Internet)" in their website. Bob Shullman, president of IPSOS Mendelsohn commented that, if a business organization (something that deals with luxury goods) wants to reach that market segment, mobile marketing would be a good solution for better conversion. And undoubtedly, if you can do it well, it also means better return on investment.

More importantly about 89 percent to 92 percent people are connected to internet either from office or from home. To add to this around 45 percent to 62 percent people are connected to internet in both home and office.

The survey also projects that the affluent class do not use internet just to communicate (e.g. mail or IMs) with others or to acquire news and information. The high income segment also purchases different products and services via internet.

Thus, if you are running a website that would cater to such affluent crowd, make sure to publish a mobile version. Especially if you offer some services like online stock and mutual fund solutions, vacation planning (cruise), SUVs, or high-end home selling, you should think about mobile marketing as the survey shows that the affluent segment have plans to invest in these sectors in next 12 months.

And as far as their spending trend goes, last year they spent a lot of money on home furnishing, Women's apparel and designer clothes, jewelry, original paintings and antiques, HDTV etc. And people dealing with similar products may accept some good business in this year too.

So, what are you waiting for? Go ahead and enjoy a good financial year.
