It is a fact now that optimal health is linked to the importance of good nutrition. The importance of good nutrition is the main preventive measure against a high number of human diseases.

The importance of good nutrition to achieve optimal health is unquestionable. The importance of good nutrition is central to maintain good health in a dilapidated environment, fight off disease, correct imbalances in the body and provide energy and enthusiasm for life. Optimum health is linked to the importance of good nutrition. But, the point is that the importance of good nutrition is linked to one's capability to get the proper nutrients from the food. Nowadays, industrial food marketed in the food chain are filled up with additives which affect the quality of food. Nowadays, in order to value the importance of good nutrition, natural supplements like vitamins and minerals have to be added to the diet. Each year, average American eats twelve pounds of food additives and a gallon of pesticides, not to mention all the air-born pollutants that are inhaled! It's no wonder our bodies are overworked, overburdened, and no longer able to adequately eliminate all these foreign substances. Diet-related diseases include, but are nor limited to, coronary heart disease, hypertension, stroke, diabetes, various cancers and osteoporosis. These diseases take the lives of millions of people each year and cost billions of dollars in health care.

According to the National Academy of Sciences, 60 percent of all cancers in women and 40 percent of all cancers in men may be due to dietary and nutritional factors. Consequently, the importance of good nutrition and diet are the main preventive measures against cancer. Enzymes are required to get the proper nutrients from the food.

There is a growing number of people who are aware of the importance of good nutrition and are turning towards foods that are enriched with different herbs, vitamins and minerals. More and more foods will be tailored to improve health and extend life.

Scientific studies on the healing potential in foods are in a constant progression. It is now understood that humans require a daily intake of particular nutrients to support their activities and that when one or more specific nutrients are absent, deficiency disorders will occur. It is known now that certain constituents in food have a health potential and can actively improve health. For example, we know that humans are exposed to substances called free radicals. Those reactive molecules have been linked to a number of human diseases like cancer, Alzheimer's disease, cataracts, immune deficiency etc. We are now aware that some plants, many fruits and vegetables have powerful compounds called antioxidants. Foods containing antioxidants can prevent diseases such as cardiovascular disease. Other foods contain fatty acids like fish can help lower blood pressure, nourish the brain and more. Some foods are rich in fiber and can help protect our gastrointestinal tract. The importance of good nutrition will play, in the years ahead, a leading role to improve our quality of life and will have a major influence on our health.
