Local City Places: Fun New Review Site Offers You Ongoing Revenue Stream Without Having to Sell Anything
One of my favorite ways to earn passive revenues is with affiliate programs, like Local City Places. I just put links on my social media or blog for something and get occasional random payments. Fun!
In Local City Places, I’ve found an affiliate program that looks incredibly promising. It combines my love for supporting local businesses with writing business reviews. It’s kind of Yelp meets Groupon, and they have a cool affiliate program for people who post reviews.
Local City Places (here’s my link) uses a referral model for building up the reviews on the site.
Basically, when you write reviews for businesses, restaurants, doctors, stuff like that inside your free account, you can earn on the back end if and when those businesses purchase an upgraded listing.
You don’t have to do anything but write reviews. You don’t have to talk to businesses or anything. You just post reviews.

In a nutshell, you write a review of a place you went to and then LocalCityPlaces sends the business you reviewed a notice saying they have a review and to come update their free listing. This tags the business to you as the person who got them in the system.
Then, eventually someone from the company reaches out to them about a top of page listing on their category for their city.
So, let’s say you write a review of a local Mexican restaurant in the easy-to-use Local City Places page. This tags the restaurant as your referral if that’s the first review entered for them. Then, if and when they purchase an upgraded listing, you get monthly payments for as long as they stay with it. Doesn’t cost you anything to participate. You just make money if the business upgrades their listing.
There are other cool options too, but that’s the basic level. And even the other opportunities don’t cost you anything to participate.
Dave and I are doing it as a passive income stream. We figured we have nothing to lose. We already go to places and often write reviews for Yelp, Google, Local Flavor, and other review sites. We love to support local businesses anyway, so it’s right up our alley. We don’t have to sell anything to anybody and it’s all passive other than writing the reviews.
